Merging

Yutang Lin

Single-minded in Dharma without mixing other thoughts,
Whatever encountered is practiced to deepen experiences.
Onlookers grasping to appearances are apt to cast ridicule;
Real understanding comes only after personal undertaking.

Comments:

Being single-minded in Dharma would transform all experiences into Buddhist practices. Responses to any situation could be reflected upon to see if they were of awakening or of ignorance. People who have not devoted themselves completely to the Dharma would cast judgment on Dharma matters based on appearances, and readily make mistakes of grasping to formality. Real comprehension would arise only after actual undertaking of complete merging into the Dharma.
