Meritorious Adornment

Yutang Lin

With deep hindrance and scanty merit one could not witness,
Hastily recognized as imaginative and hard to accept as true.
After requesting prayers and Powa for others for many years,
Only then received a bracelet signifying merits accumulated.

Comment:

A Buddhist in China regularly and frequently sent me news from all over the world so as to ask me to pray for victims and perform Powa for deceased beings. This practice has continued for years. A few days ago, with eyes closed and about to go into sleep, he suddenly saw his left wrist wore a splendid bracelet. Therefore, he realized that descriptions of ornaments on Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as recorded in Buddhist Sutras are not empty words. This kind of spiritual jewel adornment is a natural manifestation of merits accumulated. Ordinary people do not understand to cultivate good fortune, not to mention to accumulate merits for further Dharma practices, therefore it is seldom for people to have this kind of experiences. Through this opportunity I add a few remarks with the hope that those who are already Buddhists and have started to engage in some Dharma practices would be prompted to make serious efforts.
