Antidotal treatment born of grasping to forms is strenuous;
Trimming tips of branches will not last beyond one season.
Clarify wisdom and compassion to waken deluded morons;
Cultivation at the root will bring about ultimate differences.

Comment:

There are much suffering and hardship in the world. Antidotal approaches born of grasping to forms are often strenuous but ineffectual. Even though temporary relief may be achieved through such efforts, soon enough all kinds of hindrances and problems would arise in abundance. In view of our scanty energy and impermanent time we should emphasize on expounding wisdom and compassion so as to achieve fundamental improvements in hearts and minds.
