Lacking Awakened Ones

Yutang Lin

Being indifferent only out of helplessness;
Engaging within still sees only confusion.
Here and there, in turn similar acts are on;
Worldly farces lack awakened participants.

Comment:

Worldly affairs are difficult to sort out. Staying aloof would seem indifferent. Even if one threw oneself into the pits, only more entanglements would vainly ensue. Farces are staged in turn, here and there; sorrows and suffering never cease for a moment. Following the Buddhist path to become awakened, one renounces the worldly ways to reduce attachment to self-centeredness.
