The Silence of Bodhisattva
Yutang Lin
Bodhisattva sits at ease on the altar
Day in and day out
Facing all sorts of people coming to worship
And leaving to continue their shares in suffering
Listened to wishes of all extraneous varieties
And pleadings born of inescapable predicaments
Still Bodhisattva watches and remains in silence
The silence of Bodhisattva
Does not amount to numbed reaction
Rather it is a teaching through personal example
To enlighten all sentient beings
That they should follow the example as set by Bodhisattva
To release all their personal considerations and views
So as to observe the sufferings of sentient beings
And to listen to their tormented sighs and wailings
And simultaneously to face all matters in the world
With a mind of boundless compassion and tolerance
Because it is only in this way will one be able to
Transcend the causal transmigration strung by personal considerations
And abide in the everlasting salvation of great compassion for all beings
