祈願難免偏一方,遇事反應多顧己;

Turning Around Yutang Lin

Prayers and wishes could hardly avoid being one-sided.
Reactions to events are mostly to manage self-interests.
Years of Dharma practice gradually turn things around;
Only wish equally that all would soon Buddha become.

Comment:

Ordinarily people's reactions to matters or their supplications to gods or Buddhas could hardly avoid leaning toward considerations for self-interests or involving self-righteous views. If one's Dharma practices are solid and non-pretentious, then only after long years of dedication could one gradually realize the simple truth that all sentient beings are equal, and become free from dualistic views of one-versus-others. Consequently, one would no longer be attached to certain partial views; instead, one would simply pray for all equally, wishing that they would soon become awakened, and soon attain full enlightenment.
