Out of Bounds

Yutang Lin

Established roles are easy to play and be understood,
While ways unconfined are difficult to comprehend.
Don't attach to applause and be trapped into a circle;
Solid steps on the path are oft cast in chill loneliness.

Comments:

How would it be counted as a Dharma practice? Although there are traditional patterns and roles to be followed, the possibility of their being misused and merely enacted is still there. Genuine practice could not be confined by set formalities because natural expression of purity has no predetermined shapes and routes. When a practitioner comes to the juncture of purity and formality he or she should bravely choose the genuine path without being pulled back by apparent conformity to formality.
