Some questions on Dharmakaya Light and "Great Perfection in the Diamond Sutra" as raised by disciple Yaoen

Part One

Yaoen: My noble guru, thank you for your concern and compassionate teaching!

Through your works I have come to thoroughly understand the notion of "Blank Essence as dependent arising." I used to chase after "why the Dharmakaya Light is empty" for long, thinking that the Dharmakaya Light must be something we can grasp, because I always wanted to grasp a thing as the source of all things (couldn't get rid of the habit to use scientific thinking to explore Buddhism). But when I thought in this way: "Everything will change with time, and hence no unchanging thing exists." I understood that, since all things in the past, present and future are born from the Dharmakaya, if it is an unchanging thing we can grasp, it must be unchangeable with the time and conditions, an eternal thing. Then it becomes contrary to the Mutually-dependent Arising Theory: all things are mutually dependent, and there is no unchanging thing. Therefore, the Dharmakaya is not anything, so we say that it is empty; but ordinary people are accustomed to grasping, so they grasp the "emptiness" as an unchanging thing, thinking that there is a constant thing beyond our understanding—emptiness. But this is wrong; it should be that, even the "emptiness" is unavailable and non-existent.

Thus, I comprehended why the Dharmakaya Light is in the absence of everything because it is not anything, and even the concept of "absence of everything" should not be held. It transcends our conceptual understanding, and yet we can describe it like this: Absence of everything except blue lights, which can help beginners to comprehend it. Now I know why Guru repeatedly stressed, that I should not ponder on the state of Dharmakaya in thoughts. Thank you!

Guru: Now you have comprehended it. And the reason you could not comprehend it was simply due to your habit of grasping through mental concepts.

Part Two

Yaoen: Recently I have not practiced other Dharma teachings. In accordance with your instruction, I follow your footprints; daily I just chant the Buddha name "Amitabha." I use this method (like throwing pork-dumplings at dogs): when a thought arises, I chant "Amitabha" once in my mind. Through such practice I gained many insights.

Guru: This is real advancement. This also shows that it is very important to just follow Guru’s guidance because actually those guidance, when followed exactly, can save you a lot of energy and time for advancement on the Dharma path.

Part Three

Yaoen: My noble master, I would like to ask the following: I often read in Tantric texts talking about "Innate Awareness," "the Mother Brilliance." I want to know, when a thought disappeared and the next thought hasn’t arisen; at this moment, in the middle of the gap, is that what we called as "Innate Awareness" or " the Mother Brilliance"?

Guru: Wrong. It is not something that can be captured at some time or point. It is always there all the time.

Yaoen: As your work (http://www.originalpurity.org/gurulin/efiles/p0/p0018.html) expounded, I think, a gap between thoughts is the state of Great Perfection; is this understanding correct?

Guru: Wrong. It is clearly stated in the work: "at the instant not confined by forms." And yet you misunderstood it as grasping to "at the instant."

Wish you forever remain healthy, live forever and never die
