Sank and Soaked

Yutang Lin

Bystanders and insiders certainly experience differently
Shallow tasting and after sank and soaked
Naturally are not the same

As my age advanced
Gradually realized that I prefer instrumental melodies
        To vocal ones
Asked disciples to send me some instrumental melodies of classic Chinese style
One disk played in random and continuous mode
Listened to for days on end
Only then switched to another disk
Thus after months and years
Only then realized that sounds of Guzheng are milder than those of Guqin
(Excuse me for such slow comprehension)

For birthday this year
A disciple sent imitation art works of the paintings on ten super dogs by Lang Shining
Even though it is not as lustrous and refined as the originals
Hanging on the wall does enhance a refined atmosphere in the room
Still I am in no hurry to view them all at once
Only one scroll is displayed at one time
After several weeks and then another dog is switched on
Furthermore I go on-line to compare it with the original posted
In leisure it is thus truly enjoyed

"Sank" means entered deeply
"Soaked" means abiding therein for long
Dharma practices and activities are
Hard to be appreciated by onlookers
Only through personal involvement can their benefits be appreciated
And it takes "sank in" to truly comprehend their effects
If one can "soak in" on end
Then one might be able to benefit all sentient beings
Whoever has developed Bodhicitta
        Shouldn't you strive for this

Note: Lang Shining is the Chinese name for Jesuit painter Giuseppe Castiglione.
