Causal Conditions for Favors

Yutang Lin

According to causal laws causal conditions determine all matters
Ordinarily as matters arise people seek Buddhas' and Boddhisattvas' favors
So that their perplexities be resolved and wishes fulfilled
Buddha's mind intends to benefit all beings equally and ultimately
Nevertheless unless causal conditions are sufficient and matching
No way to prefer and favor anyone among the multitude of all beings

Ordinarily people are confined by self-centeredness
Only seeking fast profits without considering
What meritorious causal conditions dose one possess
To expect beneficial fruits
Often on the contrary
They blame Dharma as ineffectual
And Bodhisattvas as lack of mercy

If a Dharma practitioner can
Not taking into consideration all one's preferences and prejudices
Instead single-mindedly and whole-heartedly engage in
Dharma practices and propagations
For a life-long time without slack
In eyes of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
That constitutes a Dharma instrument capable of
Helping beings to gain benefits through Dharma and reach ultimate liberation
If such a practitioner is not well looked after and taken care of
Then it will not be possible to benefit more sentient beings in many ways
Therefore without waiting for supplications
Naturally they will do their best to safeguard and preserve such a practitioner
So that a Dharma instrument can function well to benefit all

Seeking holy beings' favors for personal matters
Often will result in dismay due to lack of sufficient causal conditions
Devoting oneself only into Dharma practices and services despite selfish considerations
Will on the contrary render one to abide constantly and naturally
In the favors of all holy beings
