咒字本淨 林鈺堂 簡繁轉換 - 繁體

梵咒藏譯成法本,漢地沿習難掌握;

Dr. Lin,
林博士,

I believe this innovation is and will be extremely important.
我認為這個創舉的確是並且將會是非常的重要。

Actually, it had happened before long ago as a practical matter in Tang Dynasty China and Tibet before. People just didn't admit it and "pretended" to be Sanskrit.
事實上,在很久以前的唐朝和西藏也曾發生過這樣的事。只是人們不承認之而且將之「假裝」為梵文。

Apart from the common controversy about Sanskrit pronounciation, which is relatively easy to settle, the problem of dialects is also puzzling to many.
除了一般對於梵文發音的爭論,那是比較容易解決的,方言的問題也讓很多人感到困惑。

The same Chinese transliteration sounds very different in Mandarin, Fujianese, Cantonese, etc and each will evolve over time. Presumably that doesn't matter they are all valid with proper transmission. I think the main problem is: what really are mantras?
同樣的中文音譯用北京話、福建話、廣東話等等念起來都很不一樣,並且每一種念法都會隨著歲月而演變。我想這是不關緊要的,只要傳承真確,它們都是有效的。我認為主要的問題是在於:咒語到底是什麼?

Just think of it as a verbal way to carry on a secret transmission that is beyond words. Hence the key is that it was from an authentic Guru, and that is all. But to maintain the transmission, one needs to sustain Bodhicitta.
林上師:只要把它想成是一種超越文字的語言方式,用以傳達一種秘密的傳授。因此其要點就是,那是從一個真正合格的上師處得到的,並且只要這樣就好了。然而保有此傳授,就必需要保持菩提心。

Nevertheless, actually for myself, perhaps because of my long time English education, pronouncing and memorizing romanized transliteration that mimics Sanskrit/Tibetan are often a lot easier than pronouncing strings of very difficult Chinese words, especially for long Dharani, such as the Leng Yan Dharani, which has always been nearly impossible for me to pronounce in Chinese.
不過,實際上就我個人而言,可能由于我的長期英文教育,念出及記憶以羅馬拼音音譯的梵文或藏文往往比念出長串的艱澀中文字要容易多了,尤其是長咒,如楞嚴咒,對我而言是幾乎不可能以中文念出的。

I think it works both ways so I am not particularly bothered.
我認為兩種方式都可行,因此我沒有因而感到困擾。

Actually the same principle applies to my works in English, hence the mantras will be given in Pin Yin and practiced accordingly.
林上師:實際上同樣的原則在我的英文作品裡也可行,因此咒文會以羅馬拼音寫出,並且依之修習。

Original Purity of Mantra Words Yutang Lin

Sanskrit Mantras translated into Tibetan and became standard texts.
In lands of Chinese the tradition is followed but difficult to master.
Since all things are of original purity and our pure lineage authentic,
From now on we will use Chinese characters to spell out all mantras.

Comments:

Mantras of Buddhist Tantras are traditionally written in Sanskrit or Tibetan as the norm. Indeed, the Tibetan mantras were transliterations of Sanskrit mantras. Since in Tantra keeping things in accordance with the traditions is most reverently observed the Tantric teachings propagated in lands of Chinese abided by Tibetan Mantras. Consequently, to Tantric practitioners who are not familiar with Tibetan, reading, writing and visualization of mantras became very difficult.

All things are of original purity. Chinese characters are also of original purity. As long as the lineage is authentic and pure, the writing, reading and visualization of Chinese transliteration of Mantras should be approved by patriarchs and Buddhas. Therefore, in the Chinese version of my recent works such as "Bodhisattva Earth Treasure Unification Sadhana" and "Medicine Guru Buddha Unification Sadhana" only Chinese transliteration of the mantras were given. (And similarly in the English versions of these sadhanas only Pin Yin of the mantras were given.) Here I reverently presented explanations for this initiative to benefit successors.
